no shrouds -- how is that possible??
Mast and boom are manufactured from carbon fibre in order to reduce weight and improve strength. The mast weight is less than 50 kg.
With SmarRig the mast is very easily removed from the joining boom. Bring hull boom and mast on trailer swiftly home to the backyard. No need to leave the boat afloat. The backyard is a far more safer place than the boatclub. Lower inurance premium negotiable ?
Now to the performance at sea:
To make the rig as effective as possible the mast has a profile like a wing, made aerodynamically correct.
The shape of the wingsail, comprised of the mast and sail, is dynamically adjusted by the self-adjusting flexible joining of mast and boom.
The sail with battens throughout is inside the boom fastened to a tube, which rolls the sail up and down like a rollshutter.
When hoisting you tighten a spring inside the tube and when lowering you just release the tension of the halyard, the sail rolls around the tube – stored and ready.
Together the mast and sail make a perfectly shaped wing – no kicking device is needed. Adjustment of size, more or less roach and twist – everything is handled with just one single line - the halyard.
