As described earlier about the
mast and boom
there is only one connection between the sail and the cockpit
– the halyard.
Despite that - you can do many things with just this single line, for instance reef the sail.
How is that possible ?
There are steel plates fastened to the leech (photos). These brackets are positioned to points where you are likely to reef.
The transverse rod between the two ordinary ball-bearing travelers
is meant to be connected to the steel plate in the
sail when reefing.
When done you simply tighten the halyard - and the
reefing procedure is finished.
The travellers with their joining transverse rod are forced forward by a rubber shock cord.
When hoisting or lowering the sail the rod between the travelers is pressed just enough against the leech.
When hoisting or lowering, make sure not to rest when the plate the s passes the rod. Now we hope you understand that you simply stop in front of the rod if you want to reef.
The
function of above described equipment have been checked and confirmed on the
prototype, sailing in the archipelago of Stockholm summer of year
2003<<<<<<.
