Why don´t more people sail and why are so many sailboats still in the harbour even on a beautiful day in the holiday season. On such a day there should be no reason at all not to go sailing.
Maybe the answer is that sailing is hard and complicated - and another reason is that sailing requires years of practice in order to enjoy it fully. Even skilled sailors cannot avoid dangerous situations with standard sailing gear.
For example gybing in heavy weather or approaching a coast in heavy winds and huge waves and being forced to lower the sails before entering the harbour.
In our modern times, with all
our fantastic machines, it is very odd that sailing still is so old-fashioned.
We use boats which look basically the same as during the 19th century,
very much improved but still…
